Youngsters!

Winter was coming, but now it’s going. Almost, but not quite. It’s still not quite warm enough for me to go back to my pre-dawn walks, but it has at least gotten to the point that I can venture out in the somewhat early morning. I first started about 9:30 am and each day has been… Read more »

Beached

It’s been almost a year since I’ve written anything besides this blog and greeting cards. It’s been almost three years since What Now?, the last of my Jeremy Shuttle Adventures trilogy was published. And that’s about how long it’s been since I’ve gone out and just sat on the beach. Oh, I’ve walked by it… Read more »

Between me and beauty…ants!

Gosh knows I’ve posted about ants; heck, I’ve even written about ants! So, you’ve gotta know by now I have great affection for the little critters (well, except for the several hundred tiny sugar ants that parade through my kitchen every year or so). However, they are really causing me problems these days. More specifically,… Read more »

A thousand words, maybe, but not two eyes

No supermoon for me, much too cloudy. But the lower-humidity “fall” air (temps could fall below 60 soon – gasp!) generates some spectacular displays all its own. Photography and I are old foes. Either ducking them in my youth or taking them over the years, I’ve not had a friendly or rewarding relationship. So, it… Read more »

It’s so sad

You’re probably expecting this to be a post about the election. Wrong! Feel free to get your fill on that subject through social media and cable news. I’m certain you’ll be inundated. Here on the JMD blog, we only discuss important things, such as what can cause the blue feeling suggested by today’s headline. It’s… Read more »

Bugs can teleport?!?

I’m not a barefoot man. Just never found it comfortable, for lots of reasons. Chief among those reasons are that I don’t like sweaty shoes and I don’t like cold feet. So, I wear socks almost all the time, though, oddly enough, I don’t wear them to bed (because that’s what sheets and comforters are… Read more »

From Hell’s heart I stab at thee…

Hey, give a guy a little dramatic license, it’s better than “Nyahh, nyahh!” I watch my neighbors with equal parts amusement and jealousy as they put up everything from plywood sheets to metal storm shutters. Harsh times are nearly howling at our doorsteps. My own home is protected by nothing more than standard construction materials… Read more »

Hope for the best…

The peculiar thing about preparing for a hurricane is the waiting. I don’t think any other natural disaster has this excruciating element about it. I’m not comparing devastation effects of natural phenomena.  I’ve lived in Florida all my life and hurricanes are the only natural disaster I know, but it’s not the only type I know of…. Read more »

Mom is bugging me again

Whew. Yesterday’s post was about as controversial and provocative as I have ever been on this blog. I feel cleared out and renewed and now believe I can go the remaining 39 days in this blackboard-scratching presidential election without another comment (notwithstanding a monumental kerfuffle). That means I can get back to the typically nonsensical and frivolous… Read more »
